If you notice, it is US Airlines, not US Airways… Tricky Tricksters

A new variation on this scheme has not only “US Air”, guess they dropped the “Airways” part, but also has legit airlines listed “Southwest” and “Jet Blue” at the top of the letterhead. Everything else in the letter is pretty much the same as the older scams going. There is a new touch, a bunch of ridiculous and redundant “official” looking claim numbers, and strings of numerals. Upper and lower case. Just total overkill.

Clue #1: There is no US Airlines. They want you to think it’s US Airways.
Clue #2: No legitimate free prize-winning notification is going to be sent by presorted, prepaid mail.
Clue #3: Are you really that lucky?

Fake US Airways letter – free tickets up to $1398.00, doesn’t even have the proper US Airways logo. I assume this is another scam. Vice President number is 1-855-879-8217

I received a letter in the mail today 8/5/13 from an “Elise Warren” indicating I have qualified for an award of 2 round-trip airline tickets valid anywhere in the Continental United States, plus 2 nights at anyone of over 1000 Marriott Hotel locations. They wanted me to call 1-855 879-8217 to claim my travel vouchers. After reading other posts with this phone number and letter contents – I believe this is an effort to gain my personal information. BEWARE

    Received the Scam Letter.
The clues: US Airlines instead of the real US Airways
    and no US Airways logo
Note the letter postmark is Tampa FL permit #78, which is traceable via Post Master. Elise, if you’re reading this, our U.S. prosecutor confirms that you are committing Federal mail fraud. Stay tuned dear Elise for a Federal summons to appear. We know where you are.

I called the number and I was happy to say the people were very nice and all I had to do is leave them my credit card information so they could take a small deposit out to hold the tickets for me which they promised to send soon. When I get the tickets I’m going to fly to Nigeria and try to find the Nigerian billionaire who sent me the email promising me $42,000,000 for letting him use my bank account which he overdrew. I’m sure it must have been an accident and he probably lost my email address which is why I never heard from him again. Oh well. I’ll just check my mailbox everyday until I get my tickets…

I received a similar letter – amount is $1398, from Elise Warren, Guest Services Manager. Typed address, tear-away letter, presorted from Tampa, FL. “Qualified” for two round trip airline tickets and 2 night stay at any Marriot hotel. On reverse the letter said certain restrictions apply taxes, registration fees and processing fees are the responsibility of the recipient. As a “qualified” award winner, if you don’t respond with in 10-days the trip will be awarded to an alternate. SCAM!

If you get one of these letters, report it to the US Postal inspector. You can submit a complaint here: http://ehome.uspis.gov/fcsexternal/default.aspx Maybe if the US Postal Service gets enough complaints, the scammers will get prosecuted

Just received this letter, but it’s titled “Fly a US Airline” and lists US Air, Southwest and Jet Blue.

Says I must respond no later then Feb 6th, 2014 and it’s for 2 RT tickets. These tickets are valid for travel anywhere within the continental United States – now here is the cute part for me – departing from any “International” Airport.

Also say in addition a 2 night stay at Marriott. Call 1-855-879-8217. Claim #88-005-3341. Signed Carla Streetman – Guest Services Manager. And to make it look really professional there is a code at the bottom of the page 2PC0127J.

There is nothing free in this world people, this IS a scam.

Received a ” PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTIAL” very professional looking snail mail letter on 2/19/14. Hmmm? It’s postmarked “PRESORTED STANDARD U.S. POSTAGE PAID TAMPA, FL PERMIT #78″ Hmmm? When I opened and read the message inside it appeared at first as this is to good to be true. Again, hmmm? Then I came back to reality and googled the name at the bottom of the letter, Carla Streetman, Guest Service Manager… and sure enough, here I am writing this. This scam will probably fool a lot people into giving up their personal information and a ton of money. I sure hope not.

My notification is dated 3/19/2014 and is signed by Carla Streetman, Guest Services Manager. I ran their phone number (855-879-8217) through Google, which brought me to this and similar sites. What I find interesting is that they use my my full name with middle initial and the suffix “Jr.” The suffix is correct, but, as my father is deceased, I use it only when dealing with the gov’t (Social Security, taxes, passport, etc). None of my credit cards includes that suffix.

These parasites have an easy time finding locals to host these scam presentations. So many people out of work and unable to find jobs are desperate for anything they think might earn them some money. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the people making these 90 min presentations never see any money, even if they manage to sell some of these fake travel club memberships. I wonder if they are charged per call for the toll free number. If so, perhaps if everyone called when they had some free time, and hung up after they answered, multiple times, it might be a way to fight back. If only we could trick all of these telemarketing and scam computer systems to call each other.

Maybe Liam Neeson can find them.
